The J1 Visa is issued to exchange visitors to participate in programs not readily available in their home countries. Especially to obtain medical or business training. All applicants must meet eligibility criteria and be sponsored either by a university, private sector, or government program.

J1 visitors has the option may remain in the United States until the end of their exchange program, as specified on form DS-2019.
