CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test)
The CBEST test consists of 3 sections. It is possible to take 1, 2, or all 3 sections in a single day and test session. You also do not need to pass all 3 sections at the same time. The computer based testing is by appointment and can be taken year round. It’s on a first come, first serve basis and seating is limited. The paper-based test are more sparse and happen every few months throughout the whole year.
There is a registration fee and a CBT fee that must be paid before taking the test. CBEST takes about 4 hours to take all 3 test all at once. There’s also a 15 minute session for nondisclosure agreement and tutorial. You may take breaks but any time taken will count towards your available testing time. A passing score consists of 123 for all 3 sections. Test scores are usually available within 2 weeks of the scheduled test date.
